Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if therapy is right for me?
Therapy is used as a tool to help improve mental health, and anyone can benefit from it. Therapists are professionals who are there to provide support and guidance as you navigate life challenges and personal issues. There are many reasons someone may seek therapy, such as going through life transitions, dealing with interpersonal conflict, processing loss, experiencing struggles with mood, feeling stuck, having low self-esteem, working through trauma, wanting to understand yourself better, etc. If you feel like you could use support in any way, then therapy could be right for you.
What can I expect in a therapy session?
Therapy sessions are tailored to each individual, but you can expect a general structure of having a check-in, engaging in discussion or activities that align with your goals, and wrapping up the session with a summary. Throughout the appointment the therapist will provide support and empathy through active listening, share education and tools for coping, assist with identifying and processing thoughts/feelings, provide observations and feedback, etc. Ultimately it is your time, and you get to decide what feels most important to work on in any given week, but your therapist will be there to provide support and structure as needed.
How long does therapy take?
Therapy durations differ depending on your personal goals. Short-term therapy can be used to address specific problem areas and focus on solutions, or therapy can be a long-term process that involves more in-depth processing and growth. Though the duration of treatment varies greatly, the typical therapy session will last between 45 minutes to an hour.
